He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. Statement of Identity A Universe at War From eternity past our Triune God, Father, Son, and Spirit existed in perfect joy. As the sovereign God, he created all that exists. He is the one true king of all. The Ancient serpent, Satan, rebelled against the rule of God and fell from heaven. Since his fall, the universe has been at war. The fight between God and Satan has always been over one thing — authority. The fight is ancient in its duration, cosmic in its scope, and unrelenting in its severity. Human beings also rebelled against the rule of God by obeying Satan. Though humankind was created in perfection and enjoyed fellowship with God, this great fall in sin has cast us all into a spiral of eternal death and separation from God. Christ the Victor In his great mercy and loving-kindness, the Lord promised to send a Savior to redeem his creation. The Old Testament prophesies clearly of the Messiah who would bring salvation to God’s people. This Messiah would come from the nation of Israel in the lineage of Abraham, heir to the throne of David. Jesus Christ was this Messiah. His death on the cross meant victory over Satan and the breaking of all the evil strongholds on humanity. In Christ, God has redeemed creation and is gathering a remnant who will share forever in his Kingdom through the triumph of his Son. Representing the King We believe our greatest privilege as believers in Jesus is to faithfully represent Jesus Christ as the coming King who once for all defeated the powers of evil and who will very soon utterly destroy Satan, all demonic activity, sin, and death. We take great joy in knowing that we have been called to declare this hope in our urban communities as a foretaste of the eternal hope to come. We believe people can experience the victory of Christ over addiction, pain, sorrow, hatred, bitterness, anger, violence, immorality, and all other expressions of sin. We believe that the single greatest expression in which we represent Christ amidst great evil is Christus Victor (Christ the Victor). The fight is on! Christ the Victor Urban Church Association This fellowship was designed to come alongside urban pastors of small churches who had little or no other connections. We believe God will use it to launch church planting movements in Wichita among the urban poor and even possibly beyond Wichita to other large cities in our region. Currently the five churches that make up the Association are Lighthouse Community Church (Pastor Jerry Willhite), Restored Community Church (Pastor Rob Danz), La Iglesia de Cristo Victorioso - Emporia (Pastor Gerson Berrios), La Iglesia de Cristo Victorioso - Homestead (Pastor Alvaro Mora) and Christ the Victor Central (Pastor Manolo Saenz). Please pray that God will work powerfully as we meet together, plan events together, and seek common ways of training our emerging leaders to reproduce more churches! |
